Wat Chaiwatthanaram is one of Ayutthaya’s most stunning and well-preserved temples, located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River.
It was built in 1630 by King Prasat Thong to honor his mother and to commemorate the glory of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.
The temple’s design reflects Khmer-style architecture, featuring a central prang (tower) surrounded by smaller prangs and galleries with Buddha images — symbolizing Mount Meru, the center of the universe in Buddhist cosmology.
As the sun sets, Wat Chaiwatthanaram becomes even more breathtaking, with the golden light illuminating the ancient ruins, making it a favorite spot for photography and evening visits.
