Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon (Temple of the Great Victory) is one of the most famous and active temples in Ayutthaya.
It was originally built in 1357 during the reign of King U-Thong, the founder of Ayutthaya, to house monks returning from ordination in Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
Later, King Naresuan the Great ordered the construction of the tall pagoda (chedi) to commemorate his victory over the Burmese in 1593 — symbolizing the kingdom’s strength and triumph.
The temple complex features a large reclining Buddha, rows of seated Buddha images draped in saffron robes, and the towering chedi that offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.
It remains an active monastery and a popular place for both locals and tourists to visit, pay respect, and take beautiful photos.
