Wat Lokayasutharam, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is one of Ayutthaya’s most remarkable historical sites.
It is famous for its enormous reclining Buddha image, known locally as Phra Buddhasaiyart, which measures about 42 meters long and 8 meters high — one of the largest in Ayutthaya.
The Buddha is lying in the subduing Mara posture, facing east, with a serene smile that symbolizes peace and enlightenment.
The statue was built of bricks and covered with plaster, and it remains a sacred site where visitors come to pay their respects and make offerings.
Although most of the surrounding temple structures have been lost over time, Wat Lokayasutharam still retains a sense of calm and spiritual charm amidst the ancient ruins.
